What we aim to solve
Land is foundational to the health and wellbeing of people and nature, but its social and environmental benefits are threatened by unsustainable development and are not accessible to all communities.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
TerraCorps AmeriCorps Program
TerraCorps runs an AmeriCorps national service program focused on building capacity of community-based non-profits that conserve and secure access to land for the health and well-being of people and nature. Currently, TerraCorps supports 48 AmeriCorps members serving at 25 land trusts, urban agriculture, and food justice organizations across Massachusetts. Our AmeriCorps members provide the hands-on capacity our partner organizations need to organize volunteers and develop and implement community programs that engage youth and adults in programs related to land including: conservation and stewardship, community and school gardening, urban farming, sustainable food systems, and healthy lifestyle programs. TerraCorps is expanding its service area to include Connecticut and Rhode Island in 2020.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
TerraCorps' goals are expressed in our Ends Policy that was developed and adopted by our founding Board of Directors. The Ends Policy articulates the big picture outcomes we seek to achieve as the sum result of our work as follows:
1. Lands are restored, protected, and managed for social and ecological resilience and sustainability
2. The well-being of communities is advanced by equitable access to healthy food, clean water, and land
3. A diversity of people have meaningful connections to local landscapes
4. Communities collaborate to build thriving social and ecological systems
5. Our alumni exemplify a diverse and inclusive network of accomplished professionals advancing these Ends.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Land trust, urban agriculture, and food justice nonprofits play primary roles in helping communities overcome the damaging effects of land over-development and racially biased land use systems. But, these relatively small community non-profits often have insufficient capacity to deliver core interventions at necessary scale.
TerraCorps responds to the capacity needs of these organizations buy engaging them as partners in a network of TerraCorps service sites where our AmeriCorps members will spend one or more service years focused on systems improvement, program design and delivery, organizing volunteers, and engaging underrepresented members of the community. The benefits of members' service are reciprocal. AmeriCorps members gain valuable professional development experience that prepares them environmental conservation, sustainable agriculture, and food justice careers, and service sites benefit by having access to talented, and motivated people who can help them better achieve their missions.
