What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

The problem is that youth sports are becoming too expensive today in general. Too many kids can't participate at high levels, even if they have the talent, because of the expense it often requires. Softball is beginning to follow the trend set by basketball and football, in that national travel organizations who pay for access to recruiting and leverage a network of coaches and runners for coaches are forming and spreading across the country. The challenge with those organizations is the expense associated with them, most of which are for-profit enterprises that benefit the owners of those clubs as well as the wealthy families who can afford to send their kids to them.

Work 4 Ur Dirt

The girls on the teams in Diamond Club serve their communities by volunteering at a wide range of charities. Corporate sponsors of Diamond Club can attach hours to their donations and the girls fulfill those hours supporting the causes our corporate partners identify.

Population(s) Served

Our organization holds an annual softball tournament attended by teams throughout Missouri and the money raised from this tournament goes to support the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation). We have raised over $30,000 to date in support of this effort.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Diamond Club is a 501c3 organization where no officers make a dime from the club because we want to a) raise money to help reduce the expense for kids to play softball and b) want any money that we do raise to go towards improving facilities and equipment to compete with the for-profit enterprises instead of lining the pockets of the club or its members.

We will partner with local and regional businesses as well as apply for state and federal grants to help with this effort. With our Work 4 Your Dirt program, kids will also spend time helping other local charities in the communities in which they live to allow local businesses to effectively "double" the impact of any donations or sponsorships they make to Diamond Club.

We have executives from local businesses as well as long time members of the Kansas City softball community as the officers of Diamond Club. We know the game, both on and off the field.

Not enough so far, but we're just getting started! What's next is to begin raising money for some equipment we need and the 3-5 year plan is to raise enough money to move into a custom indoor facility in Kansas City.
