A major focus is getting all kids, including those that are from families with low resources, access to nature programming, high quality mentors, and connecting them to our community through long-term community projects.

Program 1

Summer Experiences 2022 for July and August. We hosted several Family Summer Experience events to engage families in interesting and fun activities.

Extracurricular Community Projects Groups and Ames Explorers. Programming to get kids involved in long-term community projects which included the growing of over 11,000 Iowa native plants as part of a project with the City of Ames public works, and monitoring wildlife species at Tedesco Environmental Learning Corridor as part of a collaboration with Story County Conservation. The Ames Explorers program got kids behind the scenes at local businesses and other organizations to help kids understand how our community works.

Summer Experience 2023 for May and June only. The Summer Experience hosted over 40 kids each week for all day summer programming focussed on long-term community projects. Youth planted 1000's of native plants at the Ioway Creek Restoration project and City Hall. Youth also worked to create a 4th of July parade float and went swimming and canoeing at Peterson Park.
