What we aim to solve

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, physicians working on the frontline of caring for patients do not have enough personal protective equipment to keep themselves safe and to prevent transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to or from patients and their families.

Our goal is to provide PPE for physicians in Maricopa County, Arizona, the fourth most populous county in America. We especially want to provide PPE to young doctors with new practices and heavy student debt who may not have funds for buying needed supplies.

The 501(c)(3) Academy of Medical Science of Maricopa County is overseen by the Maricopa County Medical Society, founded in 1892. The medical society is partnering with other organizations in Arizona to purchase bulk shipments of PPE for physicians. We have the logistics and purchasing pipelines established. While most physicians can and will purchase the PPE on their own, some doctors may not have sufficient funds for themselves and their medical staff.

We are not reinventing the wheel. Rather, we are partnering with fulfillment, production, and logistics experts who are providing the same PPE bulk purchasing for physicians in South Carolina and North Carolina. It works and it is efficient. We will leverage staff and volunteers to distribute PPE from our building in midtown Phoenix.

We will receive daily reports from the fulfillment team to detail how much PPE has been purchased and the status of shipments from the manufacturers. We will also track donations and interest from physicians who need financial support for the PPE.

We have already launched the program and doctors are buying PPE. Next steps will include closely monitoring purchases, shipments, and communicating clearly with physicians regarding their needs and what PPE is available to them. The need is great. Lives are at stake.
