What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Maricopa County is the fourth most populous county in America and growing quickly. As the population swells, community-based organizations will need greater support. We aim to provide small grants to organizations helping youth and families in need and organizations involved with building the next generation of physicians and healthcare workers.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Provide small grants to community-based organizations and support the professional development of the next generation of physicians.

The 501(c)(3) Academy of Medical Science of Maricopa County is partnering with its sister organization, the Maricopa County Medical Society, to build relationships with community-based partners, allopathic and osteopathic medical schools, and other organizations working in healthcare and basic services.

We have a strong network of practicing physicians, retired physicians, residents, medical students, and community partners. We are capable of leveraging that network to raise funds and in-kind donations, inform local residents about needs in the community, and solicit volunteers for activities.

We were successful in working with partners to distribute much-needed personal protective equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. We have secured volunteers for a range of activities, including flu vaccine clinics, rotations at free medical clinics, and speaking engagements with junior and high school students interested in careers in healthcare and medicine. We have informed the medical community about the need for youth mentors, shadowing hosts, and diversifying the ethnic and racial makeup of future physicians in the workforce.
