Animation Showcase
Raising the Curtain Foundation, in association with CalArts, presented an Animation Showcase held at the Newhall Family Theatre for the Performing Arts on Friday. This event put on by the recently formed non-profit, Raising the Curtain Foundation is a family fun night of animation film screenings from the students of CalArts. Up to 20 short animated films are screened and a professional animator will share insights into possibilities of an animation education and career. Audience members are invited to participate in a Q&A with the filmmakers. Audience Members have an opportunity to have guided instruction in drawing a fun cartoon character.
Celebration of the Arts
Twice a year, Raising the Curtain Foundation presents a free event: “A Celebration of the Performing Arts”.
“It’s a terrific way to introduce kids to performing arts and a great opportunity to welcome the community and neighbors into the theater so they can share our excitement,” said Foundation board member Carol Rock. “We’ll talk about what it takes to put on a production and show kids that talent on stage doesn’t happen without talent behind the scenes. Maybe some will come away wanting to get more involved in the arts.”
From 10 a.m. to noon, children are able to learn about the creative process, including a theater overview, directing, set design, props, costumes, makeup, lighting and sound. Short sessions will be taught by local volunteers with experience in their respective fields.
"Sh-Boom... Life Could Be a Dream" Musical
Raising the Curtain Foundation paired with Olive Branch Theatricals to present the original juke box musical "Sh-Boom...Life Could Be a Dream". Performances were held over 3 weekends in June and July serving the surrounding community. One dedicated performance was a Sensory Sensitive Program, which works to solidify that idea by reaching out to to families who may have members who have special needs or require special accommodation. At our Sensory Sensitive performances, we provide a safe welcoming experience for families who may otherwise feel limited in their opportunity to attend a theatrical production.
