Mission

The support, as the Association's primary and encompassing mission, of educational communication for policies and public support enhancing the cause of the United States of America, and of Liberty, in the world, the cause of naval power, a strong national defense vulnerable to none, the Navy mission as a keystone of that defense, and the remembrance of the service of the American Veteran; The support of the needs of the U.S. Navy; The provision of assistance to disabled and needy war veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces from all service branches and to their dependents and to the widows and orphans of deceased veterans*; The provision of entertainment, care and assistance to hospitalized veterans or members of the U.S. Armed Forces from all service branches*; The provision of programs to perpetuate the memory of deceased veterans and members of the U.S. Armed Forces from all service branches, and to comfort their survivors*; The sponsorship of, or participation in, activities of a patriotic nature; The support of legislative action to provide to our service personnel, veterans, and their dependents, widows and orphans, the remuneration and benefits they truly deserve**; The provision of social and recreational activities for Association members; and The provision of nonpartisan education, news and analysis pertaining to the value of these goals, and other issues of interest to veterans, service members and the patriotic public. *For a more complete description of the Association's Veterans' Outreach Programs, go to the Veterans' Outreach Programs Page on www.NavyVets.org. **For a more complete description of the Association's legislative and policy agenda, go to the Current Advocacy and Achievements Page on www.NavyVets.org. The Executive Board of the Association, by unanimous public resolution January 21, 2005 has added the following quotation to the current Mission Statement as a fundamental part of its First Article: "From the day of our founding, we have proclaimed that every man and woman on this earth has rights, and dignity, and matchless value, because they bear the image of the maker of heaven and earth. Across the generations we have proclaimed the imperative of self-government, because no one is fit to be a master, and no one deserves to be a slave. HQS, United States Navy Veterans Association is the U.S.C. Title 26 supervisory authority for all its state chapters. All contributions to the Chapter are fully tax-deductible, and this statement supercedes and corrects any information to the contrary found as part of the listing. A full description of the Association's assistance programs for needy U.S. Armed Forces veterans can be found on the Veterans Outreach Programs Page of www.NavyVets.org. Enduring Freedom Fund beneficiaries (as of September 30, 2005, Association and State Chapters): Over 18,000. Total number of Active Duty, veteran and service family members served since 1927: Over 260,000. See the Association's and its Chapters' current IRS Form 990 for further breakdowns of numbers of persons assisted or served under different categories of Association operational activities.
