What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Core to the Arzu approach is the Social Contract with weaver families who receive above market compensation for their weaving. In exchange for the extra income families must send all of their children under the age of 15 to school full-time and have women in the household attend literacy classes. Arzu also provides a basic health-care package focused on addressing Afghanistan highest public priority lowering the maternal death rate. In addition Arzu provides worker safety programs health training programs and community service projects such as water purification systems and public facilities.
Economic Empowerment
Central to each ARZU project is the principle that all change begins with economic empowerment, and that for this economic empowerment to be sustainable, particularly in conflict countries such as Afghanistan, ARZU provides an ecosystem of economic opportunity and training, literacy and basic health services in order to make the individual, the family and ultimately, the community successful.
