Co-Harvest Foundation
Building Efficient Philanthropies into our Food System
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
1/5 of San Diego's children are at risk of food-insecurity and dietary disease is at an all time high across the nation. Our mission has been inspired by these trends in food insecurity and dietary disease within USA's urban neighborhoods. We will not stand by as our global environment, regional economies, and local communities are devastated by our current food system. This system is also a main contributor to global GHG emissions and our current climate catastrophe.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Bi-Weekly Distribution
Our Co-Harvest members have donated over 8,000+lbs of Fruits and Vegetables to Bayside Community Center in order to contribute to bi-weekly Community Food Distributions and Senior food delivery. Our members donate 51% of their yield as a requirement which enables us to partner with local food banks to directly deliver and impact food-insecure families.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The staff at Co-Harvest Foundation are driven by a single goal; to make healthy-food affordable and accessible in all communities. To achieve this goal, our members' unused space is used to build an efficient system of micro-farms throughout San Diego. Incorporating fresh, hyper-local produce into ALL communities while reducing food-insecurity. Reducing the impact that diet has on the global climate by producing low-emission foods (Carbon/Calorie) for all communities regardless of economic status.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Dealing with the challenges of today requires problem-solvers like you who aren't afraid to challenge community norms.
Local farming in urban areas reduces carbon output, increasing local farms stimulates local economies,
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Co-Harvest Foundation has emerged out of a pursuit to inspire and support low-income communities without access to healthy food. Established in 2019, we’re an organization driven by progressive ideas, bold actions, and a strong foundation of support. We are building on trends by providing an avenue for individual environmental sustainability, personal health, and philanthropic giving all in one package.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
This February we have truly exceeded our goals of growth. With a combined
total of 1,050lbs grown, we are beyond appreciative of our current 6 non-profit
members. But, in order to grow more food, we need more urban space! So in
march we will be adding 3 new members! Including a small philanthropic garden
at High Tech Explorer. This means that in March, Co-Harvest foundation will be
creating amazing, unique yards as well as educational ecosystems.
On February 28th, YOU and other Co-Harvest members contributed to our 2nd
Food Drive! With over 150lbs of citrus and 50lbs of vegetables, we doubled our
vegetable input and benefited over 30 food-insecure families with fresh, organic
produce. This food provides a huge nutritional boost for low-income families as
well as smiles and many 'THANK YOU's. The food our members have grown has already
impacted so many! This month we contributed towards our mission by adding THREE additional
Micro-Farms in Linda Vista, North Park, and Point Loma. We also fulfilled our
goal of Co-Harvesting 1,000lbs of fresh produce by February 2020. Big thanks to
Bayside Community Center for distributing our produce to food-insecure families
