Company Scholar Dance Program
KLJ Movement (KLJM) is known for providing performance opportunities to aspiring artists, dancers, and movement artists. Therefore, anyone looking to get involved must be enrolled in at least one technique class. Youth, starting at the age of 4 and to 18 years old, are eligible to enroll in the program as Company Scholars. Enrollment occurs throughout the summer months starting in June and closing in September (dates may vary). The season is in alignment with the academic calendar, beginning in September and concluding in June (including breaks). In the fall (September - December), scholars spend the weeks developing dance skills in ballet, modern, hip hop, African influenced movement, dance history education, and performance skills. During the spring months (January - June) scholars learn routines to perform at their annual production titled, Summer Interlude. In every class, company scholars will learn from instructors that have had formal training in the styles.
Performance Company
Since KLJM is a performance based company, we have an adult performance company. The performance season is audition based only and auditions are held on a rolling basis. Auditioning participants must be 18 years old and older. Selected incoming Company members are asked to pledge 1 year (minimum) commitment to the company. Company members develop skill sets as professional dancers, choreographers, instructors, and much more in fields of commercial dance or performing arts.
Movement Workshop Series
We have adult programming for anyone ages 18 years and older looking for consistency, accountability, performance, growth, and fun! Each season there will be two, five week sessions that dive into the technique of a dance style, while learning choreography. To conclude each session, there will be a performance for participants to showcase their learning to friends, family and community members.
The community showcase is free for all to witness - highlight styles of hip hop, urban modern, heels, and urban jazz.

- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
- We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
