What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Unfortunately, Arizona remains tops in the nation for high school dropouts, losing approximately 26,000 annually. Project ChalleNGe is a high school drop-out recovery program instituted by the National Guard. This military-styled program has been operating since 1993 and is free of charge to those who attend. It recruits high school dropouts, males and females, throughout the state of Arizona, ages 16-18 years old.
For 22 weeks, students reside on campus, immersed in a highly structured, positively motivated environment where they have the opportunity to earn their GED as well as up to nine college credits. While enrolled, students are also taught basic life skills like how to interview for a job, follow a personal financial budget and maintain healthy relationships. Upon graduation, each student is tracked through a Mentor Program for one year to measure their success in school and or the work place.
The ChalleNGe program, a preventive rather than remedial youth-at-risk program, targets participants who are unemployed, drug-free and law-free high-school dropouts. Its education is based on eight core components: Responsible Citizenship, Academic Excellence, Life-Coping Skills, Community Service, Health and Hygiene, Career Skills Training, Leadership/Followership and Physical Training.
It is important to distinguish Project ChalleNGe from the Project ChalleNGe Foundation, which fundraises on behalf of the program. The Foundation gained its 501 (c)(3) status in 1996 and established a scholarship program for the graduates who have elected to go to college.
