What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Altruisa was founded after our founders spent 30 minutes looking for organizations to support, and at multiple points, nearly giving up. If they were willing to spend 30 minutes, how many people give up after their first Google search? The team at Altruisa is working to make giving-back easier. Our objective is to build platforms that support the organizations around the world and within our communities tackling the issues that we care about. Whether it's helping with fundraising or driving awareness, we want to build platforms that make it easy for individuals to take their first step in giving back to their community. Our mission is to help people recognize that while there may be millions of options in giving back, the first step does not have to be difficult.

Coordinated, by Altruisa

Coordinated is Altruisa's launch project to connect you to the organizations in your community tackling the issues you care about through an online platform. Our intended features will include donation drop-off site listings, hours, and types of objects accepted. The project will initially target the New York Metropolitan area.

Population(s) Served

The Five Dollar Fund is a platform aimed at urging communities to make a recurring $5 donation each month, where Altruisa will share two new nonprofits specific to your location or causes you care about each month for your selection.

The objective of this program is to introduce younger adults, especially those who have not historically donated, to give back and support their communities.

Goals & Strategy

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The power of social media and internet has turned the world upside down, making countless people feel hopeless when learning about the countless issues around the world, ranging from the environment to inequity, humanitarian crises and endless racism.

Altruisa is to leverage the same power of the internet and social media to remind people that their frustration and hopelessness can translate into simple actionable steps. Whether it's making donating goods in your neighborhood or promoting organizations to volunteer for, our objective is to encourage individuals to give back to their community and to create platforms that make giving back incredibly easy.

Altruisa is building platforms to help make individuals get informed. Our two priority platforms to be launched in the coming months are:
- The 5 Dollar Fund, where individuals can commit a monthly $5 donation to issues they care about, and we share fully vetted organizations in their community for the donor to direct their donation.
- Coordinated, a platform designed to help individuals find locations to drop off their physical donations, with filters such as items to be donated, hours, and even the organization's mission category.

Core to our strategy is partnering with local nonprofit organizations, where we actively engage and listen to their struggles and concerns, making sure to incorporate their feedback into our design.

To those that challenge the funding viability for our organization, Altruisa's long-term strategy is to leverage the latest no-code or low-code technologies to bring our concepts to reality.

Data
  • We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
  • We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
  • We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
  • We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
  • We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
Policies and processes
  • We use a vetting process to identify vendors and partners that share our commitment to race equity.
  • We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
  • We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
  • We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
