#1000PairsofSocks
Winters in Ukraine are notoriously frigid and this winter, with rolling blackouts due to shelling of Ukrainian infrastructure, will be especially cold and dark. Our #1000PairsOfSocks campaign is collecting or purchasing new and gently used warm clothing: Coats, Thermal Underwear, Hats, WOOL Socks, Gloves; and heavy blankets, comforters, electric blankets, and electric heated clothing for distribution to those in eastern and central Ukraine who have been most affected by war. Many of these individuals fled their homes in the Kharkiv, Kherson, and Donbas regions with little or no clothing. Cold weather combined with lack of electricity, heating, water is placing these refugees at risk of death from exposure. Many are sleeping in heavy clothing to try to stay war.
Operation: Restore Hope
We help donors create child safe spaces that provide mental health and psychological support services for children traumatized and victimized by the war in Ukraine. Working with other NGOs operating in Ukraine, we help small groups of donors "adopt" a school by creating a safe space, specially decorated and furnished with activities that promote healing of mental health and psychological trauma. Our project provides comprehensive training for teachers and mental health support to children and their teachers. Teachers in Ukraine are the first line of triage for mental health support. Mental health support includes activities that encourage expression of trauma and grief in a safe, nurturing setting with both specially trained individuals and psychologists and social workers who provide case management. Cooperative activities encourage students to share in their mental health healing with other students in non-confrontational and mutually healing environments and activities.
