Defunkt Theatre is dedicated to creating innovative productions that challenge conventional ideals of society. We offer relevant perspectives on issues of race, gender, class, and ability. We strive to stretch the minds and comfort zones of our audience and ourselves. Sharing purposeful storytelling to illuminate our common human experience. Defunkt is committed to removing financial barriers to our work; all performances are "pay what you can."

We seek out stories about diverse groups of peoples, we include and attempt to be as representative of the communities we serve as possible, both in the material we choose, the actors we cast, and the technicians who help to create the worlds are plays inhabit. We also no longer have set ticket prices to attempt to remove the financial barrier many people feel to attending live performance.

We are constantly seeking new material and new artists to join us. We are looking for ways to reach our communities so they know and understand our policies. We are searching for new ways to tell stories and to reach new audiences.

Over the time we have been pay what you will our audiences have increased as well as our amount of ticket sales. We have also had new artists reach out and ask about ways in which they can work with us specifically because they agree with and believe in the work we are doing.
