What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Main activities include: - Volunteer instruction in local schools (public and private) through workshops and classes, to spread the experience of Japanese calligraphy to students in the US. - Lectures and workshops open to the public free of charge or at minimum charge, on a variety of topics including the practice, history, and technique of Japanese calligraphy. - Free performances/demonstrations at local community events to exhibit the art form as a part of authentic Japanese culture in the US. These generally include booths at which visitors can try their hands at calligraphy. - Free exhibitions (eight held in Seattle and two held in Portland in the past ten years) by members to showcase the beauty of and increase interest in the art form. - Quarterly newsletters, published online and in print in small quantities, highlighting member activities and features written by members.
