What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Patient and Family Support Program
SECU Family House provides affordable, supportive housing to UNC Hospitals adult patients and their family members/caregivers who must travel far from home to receive life-saving medical treatment here.
We provide 75 private en-suite bedrooms to patients (and caregivers) receiving treatment for cancer, stem cell or organ transplant, burns, trauma, surgery, neurological disorders, and other critical care.
Guests pay a discounted rate of $46/night to stay at Family House. The guest room fee includes bus service to and from UNC Hospitals, laundry facilities, snacks, and access to a library with Internet resources. Staying at SECU Family House offers something even more significant: a nurturing and compassionate community, including a free hot meal, almost daily and therapeutic activities.
Family House receives no operating funds from federal, state, or municipal agencies. We depend on individuals, local businesses, corporate and foundation grants for the bulk of our funding.
Music & Arts Program
SECU Family House arranges for evening entertainment one or two nights a week from musicians and other performers. The goal of this program is to provide some relief and moments of enjoyment to families facing stressful circumstances while loved ones undergo treatment.
