Mission

Lilliput's mission is simple, yet powerful: Lilliput exists to ensure every child has the opportunity to be part of a safe, nurturing, lifelong family.

Lilliput Families is a leading provider of foster, adoption and kinship services in California, working in partnership with multiple county child welfare departments. We work tirelessly to reduce the length of time a child spends in foster care before reconnecting safely with a family of their own. One child, one family at a time we are changing the future.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Kinship Support Services Program

Through our Kinship Support Services Program, we support grandparents and other relatives who are unexpectedly raising a family member’s child.  This  ensures that the children are safe and do not enter non-relative foster care instead remaining connected to their extended families, their culture and their community.  Our program offers a multitude of services including:

in-home support
counseling
support groups
respite
advocacy
information & referrals
assistance with basic needs
legal referrals
guardianship & adoption assistance
family activities
childcare
mentoring
children's recreation
tutoring & homework help

A special thanks to the Sundt Foundation, Soroptimist International of Metropolitan Sacramento, Soroptimist International of Cameron Park, Sacramento County Children's Coalition and the Family Connections Discretionary Grant for their recent funding for KSSP.

Population(s) Served

Fostering a child at Lilliput is simply a stepping stone in the adoption process. We only place foster children into the homes of families who will follow a concurrent plan of attempting reunification with birth parents while also preparing for adoption if reunification attempts fail. Lilliput also specializes in training parents to take on the special needs of children who have been in foster care.   Last fiscal year, we placed over 90 foster children into permanent homes.

Population(s) Served

Our adoption program is designed to find permanent homes for children that have been taken away from their birth parents and are wards of the state.   We also assist the local counties with finalizing adoptions for children that they have placed with families.

Population(s) Served

We provide support to all adoptive families, whether they adopted through Lilliput or elsewhere.  Some families find that they need our services immediately after adopting, while others might have needs that arise months or even years later. Adoption is a life-long process and we are committed to adoptive families for the duration.

Population(s) Served

Intensive family-based and attachment-focused mental health services for foster, adopted and kinship children and their families.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Increased safety, permanency and well-being for children and youth in or at risk of entering foster care.

Minimize the number of moves and length of time children spend in foster care before exiting to reunification, kinship care or adoption.

Assure that all children are connected to a safe and stable family that claims them as their own.

Stronger communities by strengthening families.

Changing the future by addressing the needs of at-risk children and youth.

Foster organizational health and build appropriate infrastructure to deliver services with excellence and integrity.

Development of a highly skilled, competent and professional team.

Engagement of extended family members for children who are entering foster care to increase family placement opportunities.

Support to kinship caregivers and the youth the are caring for.

Recruitment of resource families who are willing to support children through the foster care process and/or provide permanency through adoption when reunification with birth family is not possible.

Provision of evidence-informed and trauma based services.

Collect stakeholder feedback and monitor progress in meeting our goals so that we can continually improve in our effectiveness.

Lilliput is nationally accredited by the Council on Accreditation (COA).

The board and senior management team are highly committed to building appropriate infrastructure and maintaining a fiscally strong organization. Our senior leaders are experts in their designated fields with credentials and decades of experience.

Over the past several decades, Lilliput has demonstrated our capacity to build and sustain strong, collaborative partnerships with the public sector and other community based organizations. We are engaged in activities that promote thought leadership, innovation and continuous practice and policy improvement to serve the most vulnerable children and families in California.

In the past year, Lilliput accomplished the following:

Internal customer service ratings above 85% in all departments.

External customer service ratings over 95%.

762 completed adoptions from foster care.

Over $250,000 generated through fundraising.

End-of-year financial performance resulted in a positive net asset increase of $420,977.

We are working on improving:

Timeliness to complete adoption home studies in under 6 months.

Reduce vacancy time of open staff positions.
