Since 1983, CANHR, a statewide non-profit 501(c)(3), has been dedicated to improving the care and quality of life for individuals residing in California’s long term care facilities, and improving access to home and community based services for Medi-Cal beneficiaries.

Lawyer Referral Service

CANHR's Lawyer Referral Service (LRS) provides referrals to private attorneys specializing in estate planning for long term care; protective services, including conservatorships and durable powers of attorney for healthcare; and personal injury and wrongful death in long term care facilities. The LRS is the only statewide legal referral service focusing on elder law in California. We rigorously screen all attorneys who apply for our referral panels, ensuring that only highly qualified and experienced attorneys are selected.

CANHR's Legal Information Network (LIN) is an annual subscription program that gives elder law attorneys access to useful resources including a quarterly newsletter on California elder law and access to a website exclusive to LIN subscribers. The LIN Subscribers Only Web site includes access to sample forms and cases on California elder law and an archive of the LIN newsletter. Subscribers also receive a 10% discount on all CANHR materials and one-day attorney trainings (MCLE accredited).

CANHR's Social Worker Advocacy Program (SWAP) is an annual subscription program for long term care social workers. Subscribers receive access to an exclusive listserv, a 10% discount on CANHR sponsored social worker trainings (LCSW and MFFC accredited), a one-year subscription to CANHR's quarterly consumer newsletter, and access to CANHR's staff who can provide up-to-date information on California long term care laws.

The Advocate is CANHR's quarterly newsletter with articles covering issues of interest to long term care consumers, a report including every citation given to nursing homes in your area for the quarter, legislative updates, and tips on advocating for quality care. Anyone can subscribe by making a donation to CANHR.
