What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Ecological Restoration
San Bruno Mountain Watch organizes community-based ecological restoration programs for the benefit of rare and endangered species in a variety of habitats on San Bruno Mountain. We collaborate with agencies including local cities, San Mateo County Parks, California State Parks, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Public Hikes
San Bruno Mountain Watch provides free interpretive hikes to the public every month highlighting the cultural and natural history of San Bruno Mountain and the changing environmental conditions of the mountain throughout the seasons.
Environmental Education
San Bruno Mountain Watch develops curriculum and activities for San Bruno Mountain aligned with Next Generation Science Standards for each K-12 grade level. We provide field trips and service-learning activities for schools, including local community colleges and universities.
Mission Blue Nursery
Mission Blue Nursery grows plants entirely from seeds and cuttings collected on San Bruno Mountain and provides these for ecosystem restoration projects on the mountain.
The nursery also supplies plants for landscaping projects in local cities including school gardens, backyards, and sustainable streetscapes.
Mission Blue Nursery helps raise awareness about the San Bruno Mountain and its extraordinary and unique flora, promotes drought tolerant and locally adapted landscaping, and contributes extensively to the restoration of habitat for the mountain's endangered species. Plants are grown with the help of community volunteers, engaged in weekly programs.
