Our BRAVO Community Outreach and Education Programs reach nearly 2,000 public school children in the Ojai Valley—about two-thirds of the public-school students. Ojai is a city of 8,000 residents with a broad income gulf. Most families with the means to do so send their children to high-tuition private schools. The result is declining enrollment in the Ojai Unified School District as well as decreased state funding. At the present time, the district can only afford one certified music teacher to teach grades 4-6, leaving students in the primary grades without any formal music instruction. The Ojai Festival’s BRAVO program provides the only K-3 music education for the entire school district.
