What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Classic UniCamp
UCLA UniCamp's Classic Camp Program is designed for campers aged 10-14 and is staffed by UCLA student volunteers. Each volunteer donates a week of their summer to serve as counselors and program specialists for our campers. About 50 student volunteers train and develop programs during two academic quarters in preparation to serve as counselors to 150 campers. Classic Campers have the opportunity to sing songs, play games and have traditional camp activities such as: swimming, archery, hiking, arts & crafts, mountain biking, nature, recreational games, drama, campfires and many more.
UniCorps
UniCorps focuses on leadership, service learning, and educational awareness. Campers will engage in community service projects that will improve upon the natural beauty and aesthetic of Camp River Glen. Campers also lead younger campers in outcome-based programs. Campers who complete this program earn 30 hours of community service towards their high school graduation requirement. Led by UCLA students and alumni, UniCorps provides the perfect opportunity for campers to learn how to get to college from our UCLA student volunteers.
Core Lessons in Mind & Body (CLIMB)
CLIMB offers an opportunity for older campers to learn about the fundamentals and safety of rock climbing as a platform for self-growth. The program focuses on responsibility, trust, and mindfulness. Along with learning how to climb, campers will exercise new skills in leadership and communication as they teach the basics of climbing to younger campers at the 50-foot alpine climbing tower. The CLIMB program culminates with an off-site, outdoor climb which allows them to fully appreciate and utilize everything they have learned through the program.
Wilderness Adventure in Leadership and Learning (WALL)
WALL provides high school campers the experience of backpacking in the wilderness. On a multiple-day overnight hike in the San Bernardino Mountains, campers are provided the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and learn what we can accomplish through teamwork and perseverance. Campers gain a greater understanding of human impact on the environment as well as develop wilderness survival skills through outdoor educational programming and leadership opportunities.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Creating the opportunity for today's kids from underserved communities to become UCLA UniCamp campers
Enabling today's campers to become tomorrow's Student Volunteers...
Empowering today's UCLA Student Volunteers to become tomorrow's community leaders
Creating opportunities for Community Leaders to contribute to the successful development of today's underserved kids.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
UCLA UniCamp is a bi-furcated mission. We train UCLA Student Volunteers and give them all the tools they will need to create a week of camp for LA Urban Youth. Aside from training and basic ground rules the sessions are designed and programmed by UCLA Student Volunteers. This gives them first hand leadership experience that allows them to grow beyond what any class could teach them. The UCLA Student Volunteers do such a great job with programming that they teach the campers and encourages campers to come to UCLA to be Student Volunteers themselves.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We have a highly skilled and seasons staff that trains the volunteers so they can complete their tasks.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We have sent hundreds of thousands of campers and tens of thousands of volunteers through our program. We are told frequently that UCLA UniCamp has changed the lives of many volunteers and campers. We just don't have the solid numbers to prove this.
