What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Privacy & Security Workshops
We understand that online privacy and security is complex. To help our community, we offer public quarterly free workshops that dive into different aspects of personal digital privacy and security. These workshops are also available on demand for organizations or groups and can be catered to your specific concerns.
The Basics:
This workshop teaches the basics of keeping yourself safe online in our one hour workshop!
Online Harassment:
The Internet is where you can encounter online harassment, cyber stalking, and revenge porn. We hope you never find yourself the target of any of this traumatizing behavior. But we want to be sure you know what to do to protect yourself ahead of time and help you know what to do if you do find yourself in this position and how to safely protect yourself.
Community Organizers:
As a community organizer, activist, or public figure, you are in the public spotlight more than the rest of the community.
Career Mentor Program
We are committed to helping prepare diverse individuals for the transition from school into the tech industry and helping provide the tools and guidance needed to ensure success throughout their chosen career path.
The primary goal of this program is to prepare the college student mentee for a successful transition out of academia and into industry. Secondary goals include creating a mentorship network which each mentee can rely on and connect with throughout their future career.
We at Future Ada recognize the importance of mentorship in helping each of us along our paths. Each of us have benefited from mentorship in one form or another in our careers and want to ensure that the next generation of students get this same opportunity.
Django Girls Workshop
If you are a woman or non-binary individual and want to learn how to make websites, we have good news for you: we are holding a free one-day workshop aimed at total beginners! You don't need to know anything about programming to participate, women and gender non-binary individuals from all backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
We believe the world will greatly benefit from bringing more women and gender non-binary individuals into technology. We want to give you an opportunity to learn how to program in a friendly supportive environment!
You'll work through the Django Girls tutorial (and build your own blog site) in small groups of three with a coach, so you'll be able to learn at your own pace. You just need to bring your own wifi-enabled laptop and have a sufficient understanding of English to follow our English-language tutorial.
We hold this event in Spokane annually.
Careers in Tech Resume and Interview Workshop
We are committed to helping prepare diverse individuals for entering the tech industry and being successful along their career path. We offer this workshop twice a year for free to the community with a focus on under-represented groups in tech.
Our workshop is setup in stations focusing on different important aspects of the interview process. We want to be sure you have all your bases covered before walking into a real interview.
Resume Review:
Bring your up-to-date resume for tech industry professionals to review and provide feedback. Ask questions and walk away with a top notch resume ready for use. Resumes are needed for job applications but can also be useful to provide to current employers during annual reviews.
Interview Prep:
Have a casual Q & A session with our local professionals about what to expect from tech interviews. Find out what you can expect from different tech roles you interview for and what you can expect from different companies.
Mock Interview:
Practice what you've learned in a mock interview style session. Answer common questions encountered during tech interviews, white board common algorithms, and see how you perform under a little pressure in a safe environment.
Open Office Hours
We are committed to ensuring our community understands the risks of modern day digital life and know how to protect themselves. Our goal is to help our community be safe and have their data secured.
Every month we offer an Open Office Hours session every month for community members to drop by with any of your general technology or computer-related questions during our Open Office Hours, as our IT professionals help assist you. This service is free, and is offered monthly at the Downtown Public Library on a first come first serve basis.
March for Science Spokane
The March for Science champions robustly funded and publicly communicated science as a pillar of human freedom and prosperity.
We unite as a diverse, nonpartisan group to call for science that upholds the common good and for political leaders and policy makers to enact evidence based policies in the public interest.
Code in the Dark Spokane
In partnership with the Inland Northwest Technologists (INT), we bring this free inclusive coding competition event to Spokane annually in the fall.
Code in the Dark is a front-end (HTML, CSS) competition, originating from a small development group in Europe, where each contestant competes to implement a website design given only a screenshot. The catch is that no previews of the results are allowed during the implementation, and no measuring tools can be used. After 15 minutes, the results are viewed by everyone all at once, and the winner is decided by the audience.
