Program 1

The main activity of the ASCP is the preservation care and maintenance of the tangible assets such as musical compositions paintings journals inventions and personal items which embody Schoenberg's artistic legacy. A corollary goal is to make the materials available to the public and academic scholars which the ASCP accomplishes by operating a library and archives of Schoenberg's materials. Following is a brief description of these activities: The ASCP employs archivists that focus on the conservation of Schoenberg's manuscripts. The goal of the conservation effort is to stabilize those parts of the collection that may be threatened by physical damage such as mold and aging. Cataloging the ASCP archive material is also an important activity. The ASCP is concentrating on bringing up to date the existing data bases of the archive material which was started in Los Angeles during the 1970s and 1980s by the Arnold Schoenberg Institute. The online catalogue of works and sources listing all of Arnold Schoenberg's compositions has been completed. This major project creates a significant connection between the estate material the Schoenberg Complete Edition and the latest research. The ASCP is constantly expanding access to archival holdings. That includes: digitization cataloging transcribing indexing contextualizing music manuscripts texts letters diaries annotated books and journals photographs. The ASCP's library and archive facilities are open to the general public and have relatively long opening hours by European standards as well as user-friendly rules. Consulting the materials is for free and the opportunity to copy them is also made available. Allocation of expenses see 4c last sentence.

The ASCP organizes - mostly bilingual - symposia lectures seminars online exhibitions exhibition tours concerts education programs for children music appreciation classes. The programs of musical events are an important method of education about Schoenberg's work and his influence. These events are conducted at the ASCP's main venue in Vienna at the Palais Fanto as well as at Schoenberg's original house in Moedling the "Schoenberg House," which was donated to the ASCP by the Internationale Schoenberg Gesellschaft International Schoenberg Society Vienna which has been preserved and is a certified historic structure by the Austrian government. The ASCP routinely carries out these activities in coordination with other scientific and cultural organizations such as universities museums music groups and various other nonprofit organizations. Since March 2007 the ASCP has been offering a music appreciation class so that school children from seven to eighteen years of age might have a musical encounter with the life and work of Arnold Schoenberg. In the year 2016 the ASCP created a new format of a composer's seminar for young people from 12 to 18 years. In line of Schoenberg's theory of teaching the young composers get overall instructions and are at the same time invited to develop their own style and technique. The ASCP offers 6 scholarships for each seminar. The ASCP's archivists are teaching music appreciation classes at the Center for Research on Arnold Schoenberg and the Viennese School of the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. The digital visualization or animation of original manuscripts is an essential point in the communication of musicological content. These are published via social media distribution channels and in exhibitions. Film elements or animations technical realization at ASCP are used to show both stratifications and a chronology of the writing of the scores. Allocation of expenses see 4c last sentence.
