Mission

The purpose of Halftime Gear is to make playing sports financially viable for lower-income families by providing them with gear. Sports have positive effects on kids: they build teamwork, inspire self-confidence and leadership, and keeps them physically healthy. Recently, prices have been increasing at a rate many families can’t afford, particularly for travel or club teams. Additional expenses such as lessons, healthcare, and payment for the use of rinks, courts, and/or fields can also raise the price of playing sports. To offset the price of playing sports, our organization aims to collect old gear from all sports, such as soccer, ice/field hockey, lacrosse, baseball - even individual sports like tennis or archery.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Sports are beneficial in many ways for children - keeping them healthy and active, teaching skills like teamwork and communication skills, and even improving grades at school. However, the rising cost and time consuming nature of many youth programs today means that lower income families cannot afford to participate in sports.

Gear Donations

To offset the price of playing sports, our organization aims to collect old gear from all sports, such as soccer, ice/field hockey, lacrosse, baseball - even individual sports like tennis or archery.

The gear can be dropped off at any of our boxes scattered across the Chester County area. After we retrieve the gear, it will be cleaned and distributed to those in need.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Halftime Gear aims to help families with the cost of youth sports. Equipment is a particularly burdensome expense for many since it is often expensive and many children quickly grow out of it. We donate gently used equipment to those who need it to curb the expense of children’s sports.

Halftime Gear places collection boxes at facilities such as schools, sports complexes, and ice rinks where people can donate sports equipment they do not use anymore. We clean the gear and distribute it to those who need it.

Halftime Gear can currently collect and distribute gear in the Southeastern Pennsylvania area. We email local sports facilities and schools, and, if they grant permission, place collection boxes there for a span of time. People can contact us on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, email, phone, and website. Through our website people can submit requests for gear. We have funds to mail equipment to those who need it, but most of the gear is delivered by volunteers.

Halftime Gear has collected an assortment of used sports equipment. We are currently reaching out to other organizations to place this gear with those in need. Our charity also intends to expand our social media presence and expand our reach so that we can help those in other areas of the country as well.
