Uniting the pro-Israel community in Atlanta and beyond

Mission

Founded in 2018 by a group of committed volunteers, the Atlanta Israel Coalition strives to unite the pro-Israel community in Atlanta & beyond. The mission of AIC is to foster a non-partisan, multi-faith collective effort to amplify pro-Israel voices. We achieve this with programming which simultaneously educates, enlightens, and inspires while combating misinformation that fuels anti-Zionism. AIC’s vision is a world free of anti-Zionism. A world where people put aside their own differences and come together in informed support of Israel. Together our voices are louder, our light shines brighter, and we can be a greater force for good within our communities and across the globe. Education Programs

The Atlanta Israel Coalition fills an important niche by identifying responsible and compelling pro-Israel voices and bringing them forward with one goal: To educate the pro-Israel community to be better equipped to fight for Israel. By partnering with numerous local, national, and global organizations, AIC has become a reliable source of quality programs that bring people together to support Israel, enlist allies and advocate for the Jewish people. The AIC offers a fresh approach to providing quality Israel-based education and advocacy programming that is current, educational, and inspiring. More details can be found on the following links:

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

The AIC offers a fresh approach to providing quality Israel-based education and advocacy programming that is current, informative, and inspiring.

We are truly amazed at how much AIC has been able to accomplish in just four years. Without name recognition or a budget to speak of, we have grown our following on social media and our attendance at our events. But equally meaningful, we pulled in national and global speakers and attracted attention from organizations across the country and worldwide. We see this and know it is because we have struck a chord with others who see a need to learn about and support Israel and each other.

In the spring of 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, we shifted to virtual programming and experienced several unexpected, positive outcomes, including (1) We have attracted a wider audience; (2) We have found more organizations to partner with, and (3) National and global organizations with similar missions have also invited us to co-host virtual programs and to partner with them.

Our 3-year plan
- Provide more quality Israel programming that is current, educational, and inspiring.
- Move from an all-volunteer organization to a professionally led, trained, and staffed organization, including:
- Executive Director, initially ½ FTE expanding to full-time.
- Communications Coordinator, ¼ FTE
- Contractors/freelance consultants as needed for web development, board training, and grant writing.
- Improve AIC’s marketing including cultivating more outlets, building a website, and growing our social media presence; this requires professional assistance (see above)
- Build a broader coalition of organizations supportive of Israel, across all political and religious spectrums, ultimately providing them with a framework for cooperation, including representing the diverse metro Atlanta community (non-Jewish, inter-faith, multi-cultural)
- extending to national and global organizations
- facilitating periodic Coalition community-building meetings where AIC comes together with leaders of other nonprofits to discuss and work to support Israel and each other.
- Partnering with the American Zionist Movement and the World Zionist Organization to establish new and maintain existing key relationships and to communicate important information to our Atlanta community.
- increasing the numbers of local Jewish leaders participating in the AIC-led private Facebook group, Israel Advocacy in the Southeast. The group’s purpose is to be a united local voice against antisemitism, anti-Zionism, hate, and intolerance. We intend to make this Facebook group a laser-sharp communications tool that will be able to inform organizations, leaders, and community members in times of community need so that appropriate actions can be quickly taken to address instances of hate.
- increasing membership and programming opportunities on the AIC-led Zionism Forward Clubhouse, which is the central place for dialogue among Zionists across a broad ideological, political, and religious spectrum. More than 1400 followers have joined together since February 2021 in support of Israel, Zionism, and the Jewish people.
- Increase fundraising and development skills and activities so that the AIC will be financially secure at the end of the funding period.
- Further develop a volunteer framework and provide useful opportunities for AIC supporters to participate.
Inspire non-affiliated and inactive members of our Jewish community to become more knowledgeable and supportive of Israel.
-Provide internship and learning opportunities for high school students to foster their love for Israel.
- Plan and implement an in-person tour of Israel that is thorough and comprehensive, and also highlights programs with ties to Atlanta. Upon return to Atlanta participants will make commitments to volunteer time and efforts to some of the organizations we visit. Plans are currently underway for a tour in November 2022.

Israel’s supporters often fall into distinct groups, some of which are at odds with each other. So, our target audience is broad; we seek to bring the political and religious spectrums together. Two events pointed to this need. When Cheryl wanted to bring author and terror survivor Kay Wilson to Atlanta in late 2018, she approached synagogues and Jewish organizations about premiering the movie Black Forest. Unsuccessful, she shared in the Jewish Mothers of Atlanta (JMOA) Facebook group. Rabbi Tendler, Executive Director at Congregation Beth Jacob, heard about this opportunity through his wife, a JMOA member. We brainstormed and made it happen, but it became clear to us that Atlanta lacked an organization engaged in Israel-supportive programming. The second event took place at a Georgia State University student association meeting to condemn GILEE and Israel. Only Hillel and AIC turned out to support the Jewish students. Nationally and locally, Zionist students suffer due to BDS, Apartheid Week, etc. Amcha’s data shows 47 anti-Zionist incidents on Georgia’s college campuses since 2015. We can inclusively corral support around Israel.

Other organizations in Atlanta may occasionally offer pro-Israel programming, but not in the same non-partisan and comprehensive way that AIC does. Some target college students, some target Israelis, some are affiliated with particular religious or political mindsets, some support specific Israeli institutions. They all do good work, but they exist in silos. None are all-inclusive and we saw a need.

Based on this demonstrated need, the Atlanta Israel Coalition was founded in late 2018 by a small group of committed volunteers who strive to unite the diverse pro-Israel community in Atlanta and beyond. AIC’s mission is to foster a non-partisan, multi-faith collective effort to amplify pro-Israel voices. We achieve this with programming which simultaneously educates, enlightens, and inspires while combating misinformation that fuels anti-Zionism. AIC’s vision is a world free of anti-Zionism. A world where people put aside their own differences and come together in informed support of Israel.

As a non-partisan non-profit group, AIC seeks to inspire and educate through a collective effort. Through inclusive educational and community events, AIC unifies a broad audience, regardless of faith or political affiliation. AIC is a gathering place for multi-faceted conversations that combat media bias, a connector to foster a spirit of cooperation amongst pro-Israel organizations, and a means by which to amplify our collective pro-Israel missions.

What makes our approach fresh is that we are focusing on bringing diverse partners and speakers together and doing that with credibility. For example, during the summer of 2020, we hosted “Israel and the U.S. Police Exchange,” in which our panel of speakers included past police officer attendees who could speak to the value of this exchange and dispel anti-Israel myths which exist about them. A few months later, AIC partnered with the Weber School Rams for Israel for a conversation with Bassem Eid (https://www.atlantajewishconnector.com/events/israel-today-a-personal-perspective-featuring-human-rights-activist-bassem-eid), a Jerusalem-based analyst, human rights pioneer, and expert commentator in Arab and Palestinian affairs.

As well, our coalition approach to promoting our programming brings different groups together. Each program’s Facebook event page (https://www.facebook.com/AtlantaIsraelCoalition/events) proudly shows the diverse organizations we have partnered with. From January 6, 2019, through October 25, 2022, AIC has been involved with more than 65 programs, 40 as the primary organizer. Most of these programs can be viewed on the AIC YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/AtlantaIsraelCoalition. We have touched and been touched by 111 organizations that have joined us in multiple capacities: promotional partners, financial sponsors, event organizers, co-hosts, and in-kind contributors. Of note, 66 of these different groups we partnered with actively promoted our activities 139 times.
