What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Global Youth Service Day Community Projects
In partnership with over 15 community agencies, schools and community youth groups, Valley of Rainbows together with 600 youth leaders coordinates an annual Global Youth Service Day project. In 2010 youth collected over 1700 pairs of slippers and distributed to 17 schools on the Leeward Coast of O`ahu. In Hawaii, slippers (flip flops) are worn to school. Many times these slippers break and students are sent home and miss school. With these replacement slippers available at the counselors office, students are able to continue school. Currently focusing on raising awareness about Safe Teen Driving practices in partnership with the Honolulu Police Department.
Monthly Scholarship Awards
Financial awards to youth to assist with their sports, cultural, educational or school related activity. $1,500 is budgeted each month, payable to the youth organization. These awards are available to youth, ages 8-17. Students and their parents are asked to 'give back to the community' by volunteering six (6) hours.
Since 2000 over 1702 youth have received more than $130,000 in financial support.
Youth Leadership Conference
Annual Youth Leadership Conference for 250 high school students, grades 9-12 from three local area high schools. The goal of the conference is to instill the importance of higher education with workshops and guest speakers focusing on leadership, career guidance, college planning and achieving goals. This is followed with a post conference College Prep and Financial Aid workshop attended by students and their parents to assist with applications and counseling.

Goals & Strategy
Learn about the organization's key goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress.
Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Build a stronger community of future leaders.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Education, mentoring, supporting and sharing resources so our young adults are empowered and capable of reaching their full potential and achieve their goals, dreams and desires.
Through Youth Leadership Conferences in grades 6, 8 and high school and providing community service projects to understand their community and a way to give back.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Dedicated board and supportive community, we've cultivated our sponsors and community partners who share our mission.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Positive feedback from parents, students and school administration on our progress and support provided to youth and the community.
Statistics are showing a steady increase in students enrolling and completing college and graduating with a degree. More students are applying for financial aid and changing their mind about college. Attending our conference, they hear from others who have been in their shoes, some with similar home/life challenges and they see first-hand how dedication and setting high goals, they too, can achieve and be better. The small thank yous we receive while shopping in the community, parents stopping us at the mall after their child recognizes us is a huge accomplishment and feeling of pride. Having students *want* to return and give back, volunteer and ask to help brings tears to our eyes. Those are our accomplishments when we see our youth become future leaders, assuming leadership roles in their school, government, jobs and businesses.
