Lending

CEI provides a continuum of lending from microloans of less than $5000 to loans of $500,000 to job generating small businesses to equity investments of up to $1 million and financing of over $1 million through the New Markets Tax Credit program. In addition to financing, CEI also provides business development assistance to microenterprises, women, refugees and immigrants, childcare providers, people with disabilities, unemployed and other disadvantaged populations. CEI also engages in the development and preservation of affordable housing. In addition, CEI is applies the 3E's of sustainable development to its work in fisheries, small farms and forestry. Finally, CEI engages in research and policy development in a range of areas to support the CDFI field and to benefit targeted populations.

CEI provides financing and management assistance to support sustainable agriculture with an emphasis on local food production, value-added processing and institutional purchasing for the benefit of low income families and workers.

CEI's StartSmart program provides microenterprise development assistance to refugees and recent immigrants to help them become economically self-sufficient through self-employment and small business ownership from stores and restaurants, to interpreter services, childcare and others.

The Women's Business Center provides targeted business management assistance, training and networiking opportunities for aspiring and existing entrepreneurs with a particular focus on low income women in rural communities.
