The Pete Andersen FUSION Family Center emergency shelter

FUSION, founded in 1993, is professionally staffed and volunteer supported. FUSION owns and operates the Pete Andersen FUSION Family Center located in Federal Way, Washington. "The Pete" houses up to 30 families at any given time, and for up to sixty days. Extensions are reviewed and considered based on individual family needs and any barriers to their success in returning to self-sufficiency.

Each family is assigned a case manager and works with them to create a Family Stability Plan that identifies specific, actionable steps to address the family's immediate needs to return to self-sufficiency including housing, income, health, education, transportation needs as well as legal issues, and with an exit plan back to permanent housing.

Families have access to shared kitchens and laundry facilities, plus a great room where children may play and just be kids. Our professional commercial kitchen is available to service organizations and churches who provide meals for our families.

Population(s) Served

FUSION operates twenty transitional homes in Federal Way and NE Tacoma. Our homes include condominiums, homes, and smaller multi-plex units. We provide services to families who need additional time to transition back to self-sufficiency, and we work to identify the underlying causes of homelessness while helping to remove barriers. Homes are available to families for six to twelve months, with possible extension up to eighteen months. Each family works closely with a case manager to create a Family Stability Plan that provides a roadmap back to self-sufficiency.

Population(s) Served

FUSION operates a decor and furniture boutique that resells gently used upscale furnishings, located at 1108 S. 322nd Place in Federal Way. It is a 100% volunteer run program.

All proceeds go directly to supporting our housing solutions including our emergency shelter and transitional housing programs. The Boutique generates approximately $25,000 per month to support our programs.

Furniture and decor donations are accepted for resale at the Boutique. Deliveries may be scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays within a 25-30 mile radius of the Boutique by visiting our website at fusionfederalway.org/boutique-store/. Our showroom is open Tuesday through Saturday during normal business hours for all shoppers, and for all tastes and budgets.

This program is also popular with home construction companies such as Lennar who will donate furniture from their showcase homes to support our cause.

Through this program, we also help to reduce waste going to the King County landfill.
