Nashville Musicians Association Crisis Assistance Fund

A fund created by AFM Local 257 to help musicians in times of crisis.

Nashville, TN   |  www.nashvillemusicians.org

Mission

A fund created by the Nashville Musicians Association, AFM Local 257, to help musicians in times of crisis. Originally created in 2010 as the Nashville Musicians Association Flood Relief Fund, more than $130,000 was raised and distributed to musicians who lost equipment and suffered damage to their homes and businesses from the flood. In addition. more than $50,000 worth of instruments were donated and distributed to musicians as well. In the wake of Covid-19, we reactivated the Fund to help musicians who have lost work and are still suffering from the economic after effects of the global pandemic. All donations are tax-deductible and will go to both AFM members and non-members. A donate button is on our website at www.nashvillemusicians.org

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Nearly all musicians have been grossly afflicted by the nearly two-year long pandemic which has scuttled performing opportunities and scaled back recording sessions, in-person workshops and other sources of revenue. Musicians are notoriously underserved when it comes to health insurance, so when they are personally affected by COVID-19 it is often a career-threatening situation. We use our donated funds to help those professional musicians who are suffering the most. All funds received go directly to the financial assistance of musicians.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

Our goal is to lessen the financial burden that area musicians deal with during times of crisis. We strive to find those most in need and help them through monetary means as well as replacement of musical instruments if applicable.

We reach out to our own community as well as to across the world through social media and interaction with our sister AFM Locals across North America to develop funding sources. We partner with other organizations to hold charity events such as fundraising concerts, and keep those who donate up to date on our fund distributions and future goals. We reach out to industry partners for donations of musical instruments and gear during natural disasters that may result in a musician's loss of their "tools of the trade."

We are uniquely situated to understand and address the needs of professional musicians because the Fund is run by musicians. Our board is composed of unpaid volunteers, all professional musicians with a clear understanding of the perils of a career in the music business under the best of times, let alone during a crisis.

We have had one distribution of funds and plan a second for the first quarter of 2022.
