What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Manahan-Phelps-McCullough Photo Collection

In 2002, the Society received the gift of 250,000 images on glass plates and negatives documenting the social history of Hillsborough and surrounding areas for a 140-year period. Since receiving that gift, volunteers have been trained in preservation and documenting techniques. They have scanned and cataloged 90,000 images and can fulfill requests for specific photos.

Each year on the third weekend in August, the Society welcomes thousands of visitor to
an action packed two-day, four-location event in scenic Hillsborough, NH. Special guests include George Washington, Mark twain, Ben Franklin, and Abraham Lincoln. Children can pan for real gold, help throw a pot on the potter’s wheel, be a student in a real 1800’s schoolhouse, cast a pewter spoon, press cider and more. Hundreds of reenactors set up camp and demonstrate life as a fur trader or soldier in the French & Indian War or Civil War.
