Children and youth

We host a community lecture series every winter in the Sauk-Prairie area to feature guest experts, update attendees on the progress at the Badger Lands, and provide our community a chance to socialize.

Population(s) Served
Adults

We provide support to the four landowners at Badger (Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the Ho-Chunk Nation, USDA Dairy Forage Research Center, and Bluffview Sanitation District) as needed for events, promotion, education, and ecological restoration.

Population(s) Served

The Apple Corps is dedicated to cultivating the historic varieties of farmstead apple trees found on the Badger property. These trees represent the lives of the farm families whose land was converted to the Badger Army Ammunition Plant. We have established a nursery and orchard, hosted apple tree grafting and pruning workshops, and shared grafted trees with other organizations and individuals whose stories are tied to Badger.

Data
  • We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
Policies and processes
  • We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
  • We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
  • We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
