Partnership for Children
Programs and results
What we aim to solve
Children and youth living with a serious, life-threatening diagnosis require consistent care and monitoring from hospital-based pediatric specialty physicians. Ensuring that children have access to this care is critical in maintaining the highest level of health status possible for the child. Unfortunately, for children living in our local communities, the closest children’s specialty hospitals are hours away in the Bay Area. Many families do not have access to a vehicle or the financial means to pay for gas. Lack of transportation as a barrier to healthcare access leads to rescheduled or missed appointments and delayed care. The consequences are poor management of chronic illness and declining health outcomes. Coordination and provision of safe, reliable, and free transportation to medical appointments is critical to the health and well-being of these children. Families also need financial and practical support to ensure their basic living and emotional needs are met.
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Transportation Program
Partnership for Children provides transportation to and from medical appointments and treatments for children with serious illnesses.
For families who do not own a vehicle or have access to one, we provide door-to-door rides to medical appointments at local hospitals and clinics, as well as Lucile Packard Children's Hospital at Stanford and UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.
For families who have access to a vehicle, we provide gas funds to cover the cost of gas to and from medical appointments and treatments. Each family is assigned a gas card that is reloaded for each appointment.
Financial Support
Financial support is available to pay for basic living expenses such as rent and utilities. We work with the family and the family's social worker at the hospital or at our community collaborative partners to determine the level of assistance needed.
Practical Support
Partnership for Children provides information and referral services, connecting families to community resources to meet their needs. We also provide diapers and car seats to families who need them.
Grocery Program
In partnership with the Food Bank of Monterey County, PFC provides food delivery for families we serve living in Monterey County as many families are not able to access Food Bank distributions for various reasons, such as having an immune compromised child to care for at home, or having no transportation.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Partnership for Children aims to increase access to medical care for children with serious illnesses and support their families.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Partnership for Children provides transportation services in the form of door-to-door rides and gas assistance for families who do not have access to a vehicle or cannot afford the cost of gas for the long drives, increasing access to medical care for children with serious illnesses.
Financial Assistance is provided to families to help with basic living expenses such as rent and utilities, assisting families in avoiding eviction and keeping the lights, heat, and water on.
Family Practical Support consists of community referrals, diaper bank services, and car seats to make sure that families are supported within the community, can keep their children clean and dry, and keep their children safe when riding in a vehicle.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Partnership for Children has been serving families for ten years, since 2007, identifying gaps in services for children with serious illnesses within the community and developing programs to address those gaps. Over the past ten years, we have served over 500 children and their families and provided access to over 7,000 medical appointments and treatments.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Partnership for Children believes that all children should have access to the care and emotional support they need to live life as fully as possible. We strive towards that belief in all of our work.
