Litter Cleanup/Reduction

The slogan "Give a hoot, don't pollute!" may be old, but it is still appropriate, and one we take to heart. Keep Grapevine Beautiful is both proactive in trying to prevent litter, and reactive by organizing cleanup efforts. Whether it is along the freeways, roadways, parks or lake, a litter-free community is one of our most important goals.

Research and experience have shown that litter is the result of individual behavior—choosing to litter or being careless in the handling of waste. And once litter is on the ground, it attracts more litter. A clean community, by contrast, can discourage littering and improve community appearance and quality of life. You have a role to play in preventing litter. It takes just one person, one school, one business, one organization to positively impact the behavior of others in their community. Keep Grapevine Beautiful (KGVB) hosts several volunteer-driven events throughout the year that focuses on litter prevention and cleanup.

Our beautification efforts can be seen throughout the city of Grapevine: streets, parks, shoreline, public facilities, schools, homes and businesses. By clearing overgrown brush and weeds; planting trees, flowers and shrubs; repainting fences, pipe rail and buildings; and other refurbishment work; KGVB volunteers have contributed greatly to the betterment of the city.

KGVB welcomes community participation, and also likes to recognize individual beautification efforts.

The development of a Mobile Beautification Trailer has also made a major impact. Tools, supplies and a utility vehicle is housed in a 8 x 20 enclosed trailer and driven to sites needing beautification. Teams of up to 400 can simultaneously work at a chosen site on a variety of tasks.

Keeping a community clean and green has many benefits, including higher revenue, increased property values, improved health and greater safety. We at KGVB invite you to get involved in your community by becoming a KGVB Volunteer or Sponsor.

Recycling helps create the products we use everyday -- from soda containers to writing paper, carpet and automobiles. Recycling mines valuable materials out of garbage to make new products. That's what makes it one of the oldest environmental practices and one of the most beneficial. More importantly, recycling benefits not only the individual, but the community and the planet.

According to the EPA, recycling:
Conserves natural resources to help sustain the environment.
Reduces the need for landfills and incineration.
Saves energy and prevents pollution caused by the extraction and processing of virgin materials.

Keep Grapevine Beautiful hosts annual recycling events for Grapevine residents.
