What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
School and Classroom Programs
Classes are invited to visit BEEC’s beautiful 60 acres of fields and forest on Bonnyvale Road in West Brattleboro. In addition to the spectacular views atop Heifer Hill, we boast an array of diverse habitats including meadows, hemlock groves, a mature hardwood forest, woodland streams, a pond, and a spectacular vernal pool. Many of our programs can also take place in your classroom and the natural area surrounding your school. All school programs have an emphasis on observation and inquiry, hands-on activities, outdoor exploration, and learning through the scientific process. Programs are designed to meet grade-specific Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and are adaptable to a variety of grade levels.
Nature Explorers Day Camps
These programs are for the young person who enjoys the natural world. Our goal is to foster children’s love of nature in a fun, safe, and supportive environment. Campers spend most of each day outdoors, in small groups, exploring the forests, meadows and waters of our 60 acres. Hands-on activities, non-competitive games, stories, art projects, music, free play, and sledding or water-sliding at the end of the day add to the Nature Explorers Camp experience. Children return year after year, excited to visit special places such as Grandmother Tree, Turtle Rocks and Frog Pond. They also return knowing that there is much fun to be had! Campers investigate the lives of their wild neighbors, learn naturalist skills, explore wildlife habitats, develop sensory awareness skills, venture off-trail, and discover a sense of magic and wonder in the Great Outdoors!
Public Programs
Bonnyvale organizes opportunities to learn about and enjoy the ecological community to which we belong.
We host and organize workshops and hikes on natural history, conservation, and regional environmental issues for all ages.
Afterschool Programs
BEEC’s afterschool programs provide students with opportunities to explore the fields and forests around their school, BEEC, or other nearby areas through hands-on ecology games and activities.
