What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Adopt A Seminarian

The project was established to help defray the expenses for our growing seminarian program, which allows the Piarist Fathers to maintain and nurture current and future ministries. This is our most important project. For 2022 we have 12 seminarians and 3 pre-novices. Our estimated budget this year is $225,000. To find out more information please contact our Development Director, Mr. Kevin Owens, at 954-771-6525 or [email protected].

For more than 50 years, the Piarists have run a mission in Latin America to share love, teaching, compassion, reconciliation ministry, respectful brotherhood and financial assistance when appropriate. This project was established in 2015 to help the Piarists to continue these efforts where it is so greatly needed.

Population(s) Served
People of Latin American descent

The retired Piarist priests are valued members of our communities. They offer counsel, comfort and education. The project was established in 2015 to offer support for our retired priests. Establishing restricted funds for our retired Priests is a priority. Contact Development Director, Mr. Kevin Owens, at 954-771-6525 or [email protected] for additional information.

The majority of men who are exploring our formation program, speak Spanish. We are a bilingual Province. Our challenge is to ensure that our seminarians can minister in both languages, Spanish and English. This project was established in 2012 to provide educational opportunities beyond the philosophy and theology studies so that our men can become fluent in both languages.

Intensive process of evangelization. It last one week each year, in various locations in PR. In addition our PR Mission helps support our work in the remote area of Adjuntas where we work in St. Joachim Academy, one of a very few Catholic schools to serve in this region. We also are in charge of the adjoining parish, St. Joachim and St. St. Anne parish.

Our Order has established its first community in Guatemala, in the Archdiocese of Los Altos Quetzaltenango.
It is a community that stands as a General House, and is the result of the missionary will of three demarcations, which jointly assume this new school presence: USA-Puerto Rico, Mexico and Californias.
With the agreement of the Archbishop of Los Altos Quetzaltenango, Mons. Mario Alberto Molina, our community will assume the parish ′′ Santiago Apostle ′′ of Huitan and Cabrican, as well as the two parish schools attached to that parish and 31 chapels serving over 80,000 people
Currently we are updating and renovating the schools to better serve the community. We offer a NO CHILD GOES HUNGRY FOOD PROGRAM. Discussion of constructing a possible Boarding School to facilitate the students who travel a far distance in remote rural regions is underway.
For more information contact Development Director, Mr. Kevin Owens, at 954-771-6525 or [email protected].

“If you want God to hear your prayers, hear the voice of the poor. If you wish God to anticipate your wants, provide those of the needy without waiting for them to ask you. Especially anticipate the needs of those who are ashamed to beg. To make them ask for alms is to make them buy it.” -- St. Thomas of Villanova
We are sharing with you the opportunity to provide a Catholic education for students in need at our school Colegio Calasanz in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
As you may or may not know, Puerto Rico has been struggling to recover economically for many years. Hurricane Maria, earhquakes and now Covid-19 have left the Island fragile. Many are unemployed. Hundreds of schools and businesses have been shut down never to re-open. Colegio Calasanz is one of a handful of Catholic schools open in San Juan and is one of the few that serves lower income families and students. The need is real. The budget for tuition assistance is $60,000 per year. Assistance is requested.

The Piarist School is a small, tuition-free, private, Catholic college-preparatory school for students in grades 6-12, serving, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin, Lawrence, Floyd and Pike Counties in Kentucky.
The school is open to all students. The School provides a college preparatory education, involving the development of an educational community which includes parents, teachers, students, and members of the local community as co-workers in promoting the physical, intellectual, and spiritual growth of the students.
The school is not just a place for the conveyance of subject matter to objects to be educated, but is one where the creativity needed for continuous renewal of society thrives and where formal and in-formal education are so integrated that the school becomes a center for social and cultural activities.
The school also runs an impactful OUTREACH program that works in the Hollows.

In the summer of 2021, Cuba became part of the Piarist Fathers Province of the United States and Puerto Rico. We have ministries in Guanabacoa, Cuba: Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Mary; Guanabacoa, Cuba: Socio-educational Center for Non-Formal Education; and Havana, Cuba: San Judas and San Nicholas de Bari Parish. This is a very unique ministry within the Province that navigates the challenging political climate currently in Cuba. The need for Cuban Piarist community support, building and structural repair to The Chapel of the Sacred Heart of Mary and St. Jude/St. Nicholas parish, vocation efforts, support for the Socio-educational centers in Guanabacoa and Havana and basic humanitarian aid is our current focus.

Because of the complex nature of this ministry, it is best to contact the Piarist Fathers Province of the United States and Puerto Rico Development Director, Mr. Kevin Owens, at [email protected] with any specific questions you may have.

We have the ability but need help. Our Development Office must be active and effective in sharing our needs so we can effectively cover all the costs necessary in formation. 8 men in formation and 1 pre-novice for example, is a ten year commitment, costing approximately $2 million.

Seven Ordinations in five years and more to come. A healthy 8 men and 1 pre-novice in formation as of 2024. Vocations are currently looking healthy for 2024. We are pleased with where we are but believe with the right resources we can continue to do better. More priests is a good thing; right? In 2020, we also increased our ministries. We formed a Puerto Rico Mission and Guatemala Mission. We also expanded to include Cuba.
