Mission

Theodore House is a non-profit organization established in 2006 to help alleviating homelessness due to drugs and alcohol use. The Theodore House is a structured supportive housing program that provides affordable housing, advising, counseling and job readiness services to those who are homeless due to HIV and/or drugs and alcohol.

Our mission is to provide quality assistance to men and women who are in need of help due to HIV/AIDS, substance abuse and homelessness, to ensure that each client is connected to treatment programs and HIV/AIDS counseling, to be able to provide clients with safe, stable, and sanitary housing within their financial means and to empower clients physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually.

Theodore House's vision is for all persons who are homeless to make a healthy transition back into the community, drug free, while being afforded the same opportunities as other citizens. The Theodore House is located in South Baltimore but services Baltimore Washington Metropolitan areas. The Theodore House has provided residential and supportive services to approximately 100 clients. Theodore House has operated a supportive housing program over the past 5 years and has been self-sustaining to date.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Job Readiness, training

The Job Readiness Instructor/Case Manager will support the daily operations of the program and the job placement assistance component of the training. This position will also provide classroom coverage for the customer service and job readiness training modules to approximately five cohorts of participants between September 2015 and July 2016. The training modules account for four days of the three-week training and employ a combination of lecture and guided computer use to help participants develop proper phone etiquette and communication skills, write a professional email, and utilize technology platforms.

Recruitment

Conduct program intake interviews
Review program applications to determine if candidates meet necessary program qualifications
Conduct one-on-one consultations with participants to assess and address their job readiness skills and preparedness for employment
Assess program participants to determine their job readiness and job interests.

Population(s) Served

The Theodore House’s Life Coach assist’s with transitioning clients’ to an independent adult
life. They work one on one to implement the personal goals of the client, derived from the person centered
plan. The major components of the job are:
• Honor the mission, vision and values of The Theodore House (see attachment)
• Collaboration with educational specialists and other Theodore House’s staff
• Implement Person Centered Plans and life management plans
• Interact with and model appropriate behavior for clients in the center and in the community.
• Data collection and recording of progress
• Comply with The Theodore House’s training and professional development policies
