What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Coolidge Scholarship
The Coolidge Scholarship is a full-ride academic merit scholarship that covers a student’s tuition, room, board, and expenses for four years of undergraduate study and leadership training. The Coolidge Scholarship may be used by recipients at any accredited college or university in the United States. Anyone of any background, pursuing any academic discipline of study, may apply to this non-partisan, need-blind, program.
High School Presidential Debate
The Coolidge Foundation sponsors a robust high school debate program that emphasizes content instruction in economics and public policy.
The hallmark of the debate program is the Coolidge Cup National Debate Tournament. The Coolidge Cup features qualifying debate tournaments held in cities around America. The top placers at these qualifying tournaments earn the right to compete for the Coolidge Cup in a national championship tournament held on the Fourth of July in Plymouth Notch, Vermont.
The Coolidge Foundation's dedication to content instruction sets its debate program apart. The Foundation sponsors a rigorous week-long overnight debate camp that attracts students from across America who come for content expertise, in addition to debate training. On tournament days, world-renown policy experts are brought in to craft and convey economics materials to the debate students. The students also receive detailed topic briefs that explain the issues and provide arguments and evidence in support of both sides of the debate resolution. Students put what they learn to immediate use through competitive debate.
Sample topics encountered by students at Coolidge Foundation debate programs include: property rights, inflation, taxes, immigration, trade, protectionism, and carbon taxes.
Well over 1,000 students have participated in Coolidge Foundation debate programs since 2013.
Calvin Prize for Vermont Youth

Coolidge Prize for Journalism
The Coolidge Prize for Journalism is a $20,000 prize for short writing of published articles or published blog posts under 800 words each. The prize goes to the author who best captures the spirit and style of the thirtieth president and the ideals Coolidge favored, some of which were: independence, thrift, balanced budgets, a restrained federal government, active state government, perseverance after hardship, appreciation of commerce, stable money, support for international law, competence at work, meticulous respect for the Constitution, civility and respect for religious faith.
