What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Professional Development
The Insurance Library offers abundant opportunities for expanding insurance knowledge, learning about current and emerging industry trends, and achieving national designations through its industry-leading curriculum and instruction.
The Library offers webinars on a variety of insurance coverage and emerging issues and provides classes to support The Institutes designations. Many of these courses are certified and approved for continuing education credits in all New England States.
Information and Research Services
Our collection and services are available at no charge to consumers, including students.
The Library receives no public funds, and depends upon those in the insurance community and related fields through memberships and voluntary support so that our doors can remain open to all. The Insurance Library provides members with access to the richest collection of insurance reference materials. Each year almost $100,000 is spent updating our collection.
The Library is staffed by experienced and credentialed research librarians.
Networking Opportunities
The Insurance Library offers monthly networking and learning opportunities for people in the insurance industry (or looking to transition into the industry). Many of the events are available free of charge.
The Insurance Professional of the Year Award Ceremony
The Insurance Professional of the Year Award is presented annually to a recognize leadership and service to the risk management and insurance industry and society.
The award was established in the tradition of an annual award bestowed by the Boston Board of Fire Underwriters starting in the 1950s and continuing through 1996. Richard B. Simches, the founder of Safety Insurance Company, believed that it was important to recognize outstanding individuals in the industry and supported a renewal of the tradition which began again in 2002 as The Insurance Library’s Insurance Professional of the Year Award. Since then, a broad cross section of the industry has come together in fellowship and camaraderie each year to recognize an individual “who demonstrates leadership and exemplifies those qualities that engender understanding of and respect for the insurance industry.”
