Mental health units are closing nationwide and around the Commonwealth; at the same time the demand for acute and community-based intervention is on the rise. More and more children are at risk for mental illness, and the severity of their disorders is increasing. Our programs serve as vital resources for the families and children affected. i. As school districts face the intense pressures imposed by high-stakes testing, budgetary restrictions, and the increased need for safety, parents of children with special health and education needs often struggle to find a setting that will provide the nurturing learning environments that will help their child to reach their academic, emotional, and physical potential. Franciscan fulfills that need for children and their families from 35 of our surrounding communities by leveraging the vast resources of our medical and therapeutic specialties to reinforce learning and care. i.
