What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Program Overview
Working to secure a meaningful place in our community for children and adults with disabilities, the NSArc is organized into three programmatic divisions:
Residential Services - serving 100 individuals in 33 homes within 8 communities north of Boston
Family Supports - enhancing the lives of over 15,000 children and adults with disabilities annually, who live with their family or independently.
Vocational Training/Day Habilitation - providing vocational support and day programming to over 240 adults with disabilities in the Arc programs and when appropriate, support these adults to find employment in private companies.
Advocacy
Through Advocacy we offer informational workshops and personalized consultation to parents to ensure that their children receive the quality educational services they need in order to thrive.
ArcWorks Community Center
Our Arcworks Community Center in Peabody, MA is an inclusive place for people of all abilities to share their talent and creativity. The center hosts exhibits and workshops. The Gallery Shop offers a wide variety of hand-made items. Two Northeast Arc businesses that employ people with disabilities are housed in the center - Shine Jewelry and Heritage Caning.
Autism Support Center (ASC)
Our Autism Support Center (ASC) provides referrals, training, family outings, vacation activities, augmentative and alternative communication assistance, and support groups.
Behavioral Supports
Behavioral supports for people with autism are offered through two programs: Building Blocks Intensive Early Intervention serves children under three, using the Early Start Denver Model, a data-driven ABA approach. For people age three and up, we offer Autism ABA Services tailored to meet the needs of each individual. Services are paid through private insurance, MassHealth, schools or private contracts.
Community-based Day Services
Community-based Day Services provide skill-building activities to help prepare people for jobs. Volunteer sites, community resources and activities are used to aid in development of social and employment skills. CBDS programs are also available for people whose goals do not include employment.
Day Habilitation
Day Habilitation provides assistance with self-help, socialization and adaptive skills. Participants have access to a variety of therapies, technology, medical resources and case management from RNs. Each Day Hab has a unique focus: community integration, intensive medical supports or behavioral supports.
Early Intervention
Our Early Intervention (EI) programs serve families of children birth to age three facing developmental challenges. Our multi-disciplinary team provides integrated services in a child's natural setting - home, childcare center, community - through to DPH-licensed programs: Northeast Arc EI - North Shore, based in Danvers, and Northeast Arc EI - Cape Ann, based in Beverly.
Employment Training
Our Employment Training program includes assessment, training, career planning, job coaching and paid employment in our Shine Jewelry, Heritage Caning, Heritage Shredding, or Breaking Grounds Café and job placement in local businesses.
Family Resource Center
The Family Resource Center assists parents in identifying what is needed to maintain the integrity of their families, while decreasing or alleviating stress and becoming fully engaged in their communities. We provide information and referrals, facilitate access to community resources, and arrange for respite care.
First Steps Childcare
First Steps Childcare offers day care, preschool, and pre-kindergarten for children ages 2 months through 5 years in a nurturing, educational environment staffed by experienced teachers.
Personal Care Management (PCM)
The Personal Care Management (PCM) program allows individuals to become employers of their own PCA's through Medicaid funding and training from Northeast Arc Skills Trainers. The goal is to enable them to live independently in the community.
Project SEARCH
Offered in partnership with Salem State University, Project SEARCH provides structural learning activities and practical internships on campus, with employment as the outcome.
Recreation
Recreation offers individuals of all ages the opportunity to participate in leisure activities, including sports teams, dances, day trips, fine and performance art classes, cooking classes, and social clubs.
Residential Services
Our Residential options include: Adult Family Care, Shared Living, Independent Living (IL), IL Skills Assessments, up to 24-hour supports, Intensive Medical Supports, Deaf Services Case Management, Alzheimer's Supports and Nursing Case Management.
Spotlight
The Spotlight Program supports development of social-emotional skills for youth ages 6 to 22 who struggle to navigate the social world. Spotlight uses a three-part model of relationship-building, drama and improve activities, and integration of participants' interests to facilitate social growth. Our expanded program includes individualized supports, including coaching for adults.
Transition Services
Transition Services support students with disabilities ages 14 to 22 and their families with school-to-community transition planning. We offer transition assessments, monitoring, and up to 10 hours of free transition coordination services.
Transportation
Transportation Services include training in the use of public transportation and ride-sharing services, as well as van service.
