Mission

Tutoring Plus advances educational equity by supporting youth in their academic, personal and social growth through free, individualized tutoring, mentoring and enrichment programs. Our vision is a world where every young person is empowered with the knowledge and confidence to create their future. In order to create more equitable access, we offer free programming within trusted community spaces and operate on our five key values of equity, empowerment, authenticity, lifelong learning and collaboration.

Port Neighborhood 1:1 Tutoring and Mentoring

Elementary, Middle and High School Programs meet from 5:00-7:00pm on Mondays through Thursdays at the Fletcher Maynard Academy and the Cambridge Street Upper School. Tutoring sessions are offered from late September to June.

Our elementary, middle and high school tutoring centers are staffed with a site manager and site coordinators. Students within the program engage in large group social-emotional learning activities before meeting 1:1 with their matched volunteer tutor/mentor to work on homework and supplemental academic activities.

Population(s) Served

Elementary, Middle and High School Programs meet from 5:30-7:15pm on Mondays through Wednesdays at the Fresh Pond Apartments in North Cambridge. Tutoring sessions are offered from late September to June.

Population(s) Served

Our subject-based enrichment programs currently focus on engineering, coding, math, biotech and writing. Students take part in hands-on activities and applied learning in small groups. All enrichment programs rely on subject-specific volunteers from local companies and universities.

Our gender-specific enrichment programs provide safe space for middle school girls and boys to think critically about gender norms, masculinity and femininity; to explore identity and develop a strong sense of self; and to talk about healthy relationships.
