What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Psychiatric Rehabilitation Programs

Vinfen's Psychiatric Rehabilitation programs work in partnership with 3,500 people living with psychiatric disabilities, substance misuse, and/or HIV/AIDS to provide resources, assistance, and skills training to help recover valued roles and control of their lives. Vinfen provides community-based, outreach-oriented, and site-based residential services for people with psychiatric conditions and other disabilities. Vinfen offers day services, which include Recovery Learning Centers where people share mutual support and learning; Clubhouses offering a welcoming, work-oriented environment including arts-based rehabilitation; and specialized day service centers. Vinfen also provides Assertive Community Treatment services, including the Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT) and Community Based Flexible Supports (CBFS) using evidence-based or evidence-informed models to provide integrated, effective, and clinically supported psychiatric rehabilitation to persons served.

Population(s) Served

Vinfen's Developmental Services programs strive to enrich the quality of life of people with developmental and intellectual disabilities as well as autism, physical disabilities, and visual and/or hearing impairments by enhancing their independence, community membership, and relationships. With respect for the dignity and choice of the individual, this is accomplished with the support of competent and knowledgeable professionals employing positive interactions and least restrictive supports. Vinfen provides a comprehensive array of residential, day, community support and employment services. Nearly 800 individuals receive services in 83 settings. Respite services offer supports to individuals who may be in crisis or in need of temporary housing. Family support services are available to help individuals living with their families, and a Family Advisory Council gives family members a voice in Vinfen initiatives and programs and partnership in planning and caring for persons served.

Population(s) Served

Gateway Arts is a vibrant, internationally-acclaimed art center for adults with challenging developmental and psychiatric disabilities. Before Gateway existed, many individuals with developmental disabilities were institutionalized. They faced isolation from mainstream society and often from their families; they were stigmatized and excluded from meaningful work. Gateway was created to transform the lives of artistically inclined or motivated. Over 100 artists now create artwork; 20 teaching artists guide participants; Vinfen's medical, psychological, and behavioral professionals advise and assist with the complex needs of the artists; the Gateway Store and Gallery facilitate art sales where artists earn 50% of each sale. Located in Brookline, MA, Gateway provides artists with opportunities to earn a living, develop skills, build self-esteem and be part of the community. Serving and improving the care and instruction, enhancing professional studios and workspace, and expanding visibility will continue to assure personal and professional success for artists.
