Mission

Enchanted Circle is a multi-service arts-in-education organization dedicated to engaging, enhancing, and inspiring learning through the arts. We partner with schools and community organizations to provide equal access to arts inspired learning for people of all ages and abilities. Our work fosters creative and critical thinking and bridges arts, education and human services in many of the most underserved and marginalized sectors of Massachusetts. Founded in 1976, Enchanted Circle is a pioneer in the field of arts integration, using the arts as a dynamic teaching tool. Our programs integrate theater, dance, music, visual arts, media arts, and literary arts - with academic and social curricula to improve student outcomes and the development of social emotional health.

Enchanted Circle's Programs

Enchanted Circle serves an essential need in education, fostering creative and critical thinking, and nurturing social emotional health for children and youth. We work in close partnership with over 25 public schools and we collaborate with over 60 community partners and human service agencies, developing culturally relevant and artistically compelling programs that bring the "joy back into learning."

We hold ourselves to the highest academic and artistic standards and work closely with our partners to develop programs that directly address our communities' greatest needs. We have a 44 year history of excellence, rigor, and community commitment, focusing on positive youth development, sparking young people's creativity and confidence, and building foundational life skills that form connections to career pathways and civic engagement.

Enchanted Circle's core strategic advantage is that our arts integrated teaching methods can be applied in any content area, with any demographic, in any setting.

- We work in schools directly in the classrooms with students and teachers, using the performing and visual arts as a dynamic teaching tool in math, science, social studies and English language arts. We engage and empower students through their own creativity.

- We work in special education, in residential and school-based programs for youth with cognitive and behavioral challenges, focusing on developing life skills - through the arts.

- We work in the community in affordable housing developments, in adult education programs, with pregnant and parenting teens, and in homeless shelters providing bilingual, trauma-informed, family literacy programs.

We work in higher education training the next generation of teachers to inspire creative thinking and socially responsive curriculum in their soon to be classrooms.

AND, we work in creative youth development ... with youth in foster care, in the juvenile justice system, an in after school programs, building young people's creative capacity to develop their own ideas and passions, helping them connect with others and giving them a platform to have their voices heard as leaders in their own lives - and in ours.

We live our mission with purpose and passion.

In FY 2019, our teaching artists worked with 84 classrooms in 23 schools in 12 communities, and with 9 social service agencies in 7 communities, serving over 4565 students, teachers and caseworkers.
