What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Environmental and Open Space Advocacy, Education, and Support

The Brookline GreenSpace Alliance has three major programs; advocacy, education, and support for park friends groups. We advocate for Town policies and expenditures that have a positive impact on open space, and work with Town agencies to make improvements to the way our parks and open spaces are managed. We publish and distribute PLACE 2 times a year, with information about issues impacting our parks and natural areas. In addition, we send out regular e-mail updates to inform our members of meetings and events related to open space. We also host periodic educational forums and field trips and other activities to help Brookline residents learn about, enjoy and appreciate their natural environment. The Brookline GreenSpace Alliance supports many of the park friends groups who are working to care for their neighborhood parks through its "Green Umbrella" program. We host meetings to share ideas, strategies, and advice, and work together on broader issues impacting open space in Brookline. We also provide financial support of $500 or less through our small grants program, Neighborhood Initiatives for Parks, which is designed to encourage citizen initiative and stewardship in local parks, school grounds, median triangles, street tree lawns and conservation areas throughout Town.
