What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

How would you summarize the problem or need your organization is working to address? Founded in 1985, Health Care For All (HCFA) is a state-based 501(c)(3) health care advocacy and education organization whose mission is to promote health justice in Massachusetts by working to reduce disparities and ensure coverage and access for all. HCFA envisions a Massachusetts where everyone has the equitable, affordable, and comprehensive care they need to be healthy. HCFA advocates for health care as a basic right for everyone, and while all residents benefit from HCFA’s work, the organization focuses specifically on consumers with limited English proficiency and low-income individuals and families. HCFA achieves its mission through a twofold approach of policy and advocacy work as well as outreach, direct service and education efforts, including a unique Consumer Assistance HelpLine (“the Helpline), which assists callers with public and private health insurance questions and enrollment support.

Outreach Program

Consumer Health HelpLine Health Care for All's HelpLine is a free resource available to everyone simply by dialing 1-800-272-4232. The HelpLine helps answer questions about health coverage in Massachusetts. They can answer general insurance questions, explain what free and lower-cost programs one may be eligible for, and help to apply all in a quick and easy telephone call. The HelpLine can be contacted by phone or online. Either way, a HelpLine counselor is available to help with health coverage needs.Advocacy and PolicyHealth Care For All provides public policy education to community groups, analyzes legislation from the State House, lobbies and advocates on behalf of consumers and monitors the various health access programs offered by the state. HCFA serves as a resource for those already involved on these issues looking for the latest updates, as well as for individuals and groups seeking to become informed.

Charting impact

Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

HCFA continuously works towards a day when everyone in Massachusetts has the equitable, affordable, and comprehensive care they need to be healthy.

HCFA has played a pivotal role over the past 33 years in bringing together a wide range of stakeholders through coalition building in order to drive policy change. HCFA also works to improve awareness of affordable health coverage programs and educate consumers through its public education and consumer outreach work, including through its widely respected HelpLine. HCFA attends community events, hosts enrollment sessions, distributes culturally- and linguistically-competent educational materials to individuals and families, runs media campaigns and maintains close relationships with community organizations. As a result of these efforts, HCFA represents the consumer voice in Massachusetts health care policy. HCFA works to promote policies that make health care in Massachusetts more affordable, accessible, consumer-centered, and higher quality.
