What we aim to solve
The constitutional right to an abortion in the United States granted via Roe v. Wade has never been a promise to actual abortion access due to cost, lack of insurance coverage, limited geography of clinics, and unending state-based restrictions by anti-choice politicians. Local abortion funds have been navigating this reality for many decades. They seek to mitigate a broken political system and a national philanthropic abortion funding strategy that has inadvertently created compounding barriers and replicated the bureaucracy people experience when trying to access health care systems. Now as we approach the dismantling of Roe v. Wade by this Supreme Court, it is time for a radical change in logistics, structure, and funding strategy to ensure abortion care. It is time to trust the wisdom and expertise of local abortion funds in collaboration with abortion providers to m
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Individual Leadership Development
One of our goals is to become an organizing powerhouse which entails growing the power of this network’s 20,000 donors as both a tremendous grassroots fundraising base and as leaders mobilizing their time, energy, money, and voices to take action collectively.
Network Building and Movement Building
NNAF helps to develop the skills, strategies, and infrastructure of member organizations in order to build and engage a base of more than 15,000 volunteer leaders and tens of thousands of engaged and connected activists who are contributing to advancing a shared agenda around racial, economic, and reproductive justice.
And we articulate a network organizing framework that advances a shared vision, agenda, principles, and leverages the grassroots and network power of members for political and cultural change around the root causes of abortion access barriers.
Organizational Development Program for Abortion Funds
Another of our goals is to build our member funds toward being sustainable organizations with strong leaders which looks like ensuring member organizations are high-functioning, sustainable, and delivering consistent and compassionate services & building individual leaders as a base ready to assist, organize, and advocate for abortion access.
National Abortion Access Bowl-a-Thon
Bowl-a-Thon is an annual event held across the country. This event shows that the power of fundraising is a political act that redistributes wealth and privately funds abortions that should be covered no matter where folks live, what insurance they have or how much money they make. Bowl-a-Thon is a testament to how small amounts as low as $10 can snowball into a massive collective force.
We Testify
We Testify, a program of the National Network of Abortion Funds, is dedicated to increasing the spectrum of abortion storytellers in the public sphere and shifting the way the media understands the context and complexity of accessing abortion care. We Testify seeks to build the power and leadership of abortion storytellers, particularly those of color, those from rural and conservative communities, those who are queer identified, those with varying abilities and citizenship statuses, and those who needed support when navigating barriers while accessing abortion care.
Direct Abortion Funding
In July 2019, National Network of Abortion Funds launched a new national direct abortion fund. Rooted in the wisdom and expertise of local abortion funds, this new national direct abortion funding strategy will distribute money directly to abortion funds so they can disperse it according to the needs of callers in their own communities and support those traveling to or from their home states to get the care they need. All funding will be used to support callers in accessing abortion care.
We invite you to support this new and innovative way to get direct abortion funding to the ground that is targeted, strategic, and eliminates barriers to abortion access.

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
NNAF builds power with members to remove financial and logistical barrier to abortion access by centering people who have abortions and organizing at the intersection of racial, economic and reproductive justice.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
NNAF's work involves investment in five core strategies, each of which has been identified as a leverage point in implementing our theory of change (fund abortion, build power): becoming an organizing powerhouse; building sustainable organizations with strong leadership; fostering radical collaboration and experimentation; engaging and building a base of people most affected; and uniting our voices for culture change.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
With our members across 38 states, we work directly with people who do not have the resources to pay for an abortion, cultivating firsthand knowledge of the complexity of barriers people face, as well as keen insight into the long-lasting shifts needed in order to truly achieve abortion access and the rights, resources and recognition for all people to exercise bodily autonomy and thrive.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In partnership with NNAF's network of member funds throughout the country, more than $3 million of direct financial assistance was disbursed to 30,000+ people seeking abortion access in the past year; this includes funding disbursed through NNAF's George Tiller Memorial Abortion Fund, which provides vital assistance to those whose access to abortion care is heavily prevented by systemic barriers, such as lengthy distances to travel, term limits, parental consent laws and waiting periods. Moving forward, our work hinges on building and growing the power of NNAF's 20,000 donors, 1600 volunteers and 100,000 callers per year as both a tremendous grassroots fundraising base and as leaders mobilizing their time, energy, money and voices to take action collectively.
