Mission

The GREY2K USA Education Fund works to sponsor greyhounds as they are released from closing racetracks, research the pari-mutuel industry and educate the public about the cruelty of dog racing. Our mission is to spread the word about these gentle dogs and promote adoption efforts nationwide. Our free educational programs are available in schools and libraries nationwide. Our new adoption program is called the Second Chance for Greyhounds Fund and exists in partnership with the GreaterGood Foundation and the Animal Rescue Site.

Notes from the nonprofit

Every day at the GREY2K USA Education Fund represents one day in which we are closer to our goal of giving all greyhounds the second chance they deserve. We use all resources scrupulously to that we can do the most for the greyhounds and bring as much information to the eyes of the public about the cruelty of dog racing as possible.

What we aim to solve

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Thousands of gentle greyhounds are used and abused as "racing machines" at dog tracks, and many do not survive the ordeal.

Our programs

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Adoption and education outreach

Our worldwide adoption and educational outreach campaign involves hosting informational tables, circulating paid adoption ads and sponsoring needy hounds for adoption. In 2018, along with our sister organization GREY2K USA Worldwide, we provided over $100,000 in funding for rescue efforts.

Population(s) Served
Adults

We believe that once people understand what is happening to greyhounds, they will join with us in working to save these gentle dogs.  We do public information requests, gather information and produce white papers on dog racing. We also conduct public surveys to track attitudes on this industry and learn how best to communicate our message that dog racing is cruel and inhumane and must end.

Population(s) Served
Adults

This is a dynamic presentation which introduces young people to greyhounds. Each 30-60 minute program is designed to teach children about the gentle and loving nature of these beautiful creatures and to encourage humane treatment of all animals.

Population(s) Served
Children and youth (0-19 years)

A variation on traditional "meet-and-greets," this program links kids with adoption groups across the country. Each presentation features a live reading by a greyhound from theillustrated book, Pele's Forever Home" and all kids receive a free copy plus a "Save the Greyhounds" wristband.

Charting impact

SOURCE: Self-reported by organization

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?

It is our goal to give greyhounds the second chance they deserve through outreach, education and the promotion of greyhound adoption worldwide. In 2018, along with our sister organization GREY2K USA Worldwide, we provided over $100,000 in funding for rescue efforts.

We believe that education and interaction with real live greyhounds is the key to improving their plight and giving these gentle hounds the second chance they deserve. Our outreach and educational programs are designed to do just that.

The GREY2K USA Education Fund works with people from all walks of life to spread the word that the cruelty of dog racing must end. Our volunteers are the key to our success.

As tracks close one by one, and the greyhounds finally come home, we know our efforts are paying off. Since our formation in 2001, nearly four dozen tracks have ended live racing in the US and the introduction of dog racing to several foreign countries has been thwarted.

We have helped close dozens of dog tracks in the US and helped prevent the legalization of dog racing in Jamaica, the Philippines and South Africa, but there are still 6 tracks left in the US with a burgeoning industry in Australia and Asia which we are working to counter. Meanwhile, our free programs to young people around the world promote the adoption of greyhounds leaving the industry,
