Goals & Strategy

Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Our goal is to recruit and retain Youth Development professionals. It is a serious problem for the nonprofits on Nantucket. The housing crisis on the island is escalating and it is crucial we acquire and build employee housing units. Our Club members develop relationships with the staff and when an employee has to leave the island because they can not find housing it has an effect on the members well being.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Nantucket Boys & Girls Club purchased property adjacent to the Clubhouse. The property has been subdivided into four lots. Our goal is to build on each lot exclusively for Club staff. We began a Capital Campaign in June, 2019 to raise the funds needed to build and maintain our properties.
The first dwelling is being built with an expected finish date of May, 2020. It will house 3 employees.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
We are confident we will raise the needed funds. We currently have raised funds for the first two dwellings. We are not going public with Capital Campaign until we raise half of the funds needed.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
We previously built a four unit quad in 2003 which include four one bedroom units. We realize there is always an employee needing housing. In 2016 we purchased the property adjacent to our facility. It included a duplex; one side has 3 bedrooms and the other 2 bedrooms. After renovations, the units are occupied. As our organization grows, so does our need for more Youth Development professionals. We have the infrastructure in place for the four lots of the subdivision and the first new dwelling is well underway with expected occupancy in May or June of 2020. We will then build the second dwelling in the fall of 2020, with another dwelling following.
