Program 1

Through the development and administration of its philanthropic activities, in fiscal year 2019 The Miriam Hospital Foundation (the Foundation) transferred funds raised in the aggregate amount of $1,858,444 to TMH to support its operations and capital expenditures, which in turn benefits the Rhode Island community. Most notably, the Foundation transferred $275,772 in support of TMH's colorectal surgery program to improve outcomes and quality of life in three crucial areas: navigation, survivorship, and patient assistance. Please see Schedule O of Form 990 for further detail related to other significant TMH programs which the Foundation supported via philanthropy received during the fiscal year.

During fiscal year 2019, the Foundation granted $872,787 from its unrestricted net assets to TMH to be used in support of the following areas: (1) expand TMH's Plastic Surgery Service Line; (2) TMH's Non-Pharmacological Therapy/Pain Resource Team; (3) Vascular Surgery Program Development at TMH; (4)TMH's Community Relations Program--community action grants; (5) nursing education and research at TMH; and (6) the Emek Medical Center (Afula, Israel) Exchange Program.

The Foundation also granted $400,000 to TMH from its unrestricted net assets to help fund research programs and recruitment in TMH's Centers for Behavioral and Preventive Medicine (the Center), including: (1) Weight Control and Diabetes; (2) Smoking Cessation Research; (3) Disease Prevention; and (4) Physical Activity Research. The Center's mission is to: conduct innovative research involving interdisciplinary behavioral approaches to the prevention and treatment of disease; train the next generation of leading scientists in behavioral and preventive medicine research; and serve as a focal point for research, training, and education at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University.
