Our Programs

Civic Life- Centro focuses on key issues for the community to help engage and support the community recognizing that for many reasons the immigrant community cannot often participate. Our programming consists of facilitation of a VITA tax site in Upper Darby and promotion and outreach around the 2020 Census. We are currently in the process of planning a COVID vaccine campaign in partnership with the Delaware County Immigrant Coalition to provide culturally appropriate messaging and education about the vaccine and resources to access the vaccine waitlist.
Wellbeing- Centro recognizes that many factors contribute to the wellbeing of families. Critical in these efforts are community members who are relied on to help deal with everyday issues in adjusting to daily life, this is especially true in immigrant families where access to services can be difficult. Centro supports local community members who we call Promotors with best practices and self-care tips so that they can pass on quality information and support within the community. The evidence-based programming is aimed at establishing outcome measurements for small grassroots organizations.
Know your rights- Centro recognizes that a major challenge in the immigrant community is where to turn for help and what laws apply to undocumented individuals. The immigrant community is often targeted by folks who seek to take advantage of their undocumented status. To this end Centro provides referrals to trusted providers in the community who can help facilitate access to the services needed. Of critical importance is the need for community members to have access to the information on which to make the best decision for their family. Centro shares information with community members in their own language so that they can make educated decisions.
COVID Relief- Centro’s small size and placement in the community allowed for us to join collective efforts in Philadelphia and the state of PA to distribute housing funds and emergency food to over 800 families. While it is our sincere hope to end programming with the end of this pandemic, we recognize that the lasting effects of the pandemic may require us to do this for some time in the future.
