What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Giving Gardens Project
The Giving Gardeners’ Project (GGP) is a service and educational program operated entirely by volunteers through the Wagner Farm Arboretum, a non-profit organization. As of 4Q2021, over 500,000 pounds of fresh produce has been delivered to local agencies in NJ.
GGP partners with the WFA “Growing To Give” educational program and the local elementary schools to help students plant seeds, learn about the environment and understand the social aspects of giving back to a community.
Children's Garden Project
The Children's Garden provides environmental and sensory learning experiences for children via different planted areas, a hedge maze, a small walking labyrinth, a large gazebo, multiple birdhouses and insect houses, a Victorian bridge, 3 life sized cow sculptures and a set of outdoor musical instrument. Open to all from dawn to dusk all year.
Community Garden Project
The Community Garden has plots that are rented to local area community members for their own organic fruit, vegetable and flower growing. Tools are provided by the arboretum. Renters tend their plots and volunteer 8 hours of labor each season to the Giving Garden and general arboretum tasks. Current gardeners give small classes in their areas of expertise to other interested gardeners. Select garden managers attend classes given by NOFA, Rutgers University and other local arboreums and return to teach other gardeners about the topics they learned about. In addition to planned events, the Community Garden plot rental income provides the arboretum with operating revenue.
